Hey, I had a birthday just a year ago and now another one? Way to soon. But I like number 53 more than 52. It looks nicer, both numbers, 5 and 3 are odd and prime, what is not to like? I am also glad that my 52nd year on this planet is over. It has been a choppy year so I am looking forward to easier sailing this year. I have also been thinking about my birthday resolution list. I love making those but when it comes to keeping my them... well, I would love that too, that is if I at least remembered to look at the list ever so often. Still I will make one just to keep the tradition going.
In our house we rarely celebrate holidays (except for Thanksgiving, Xmas and New Year) on the day they fall, we schedule them to fit our calendars. So in the past we have Mother's Day a week before or after the official one, dad's birthday once fell two weeks after, wedding anniversaries come whenever there is more time to have fun. My birthday is going to be no different. This year, celebrated it a bit earlier than the 7th. My guys decided to kick me out of the house on Saturday - how is that for a celebration? I knew they were scheming something with all the whispering and growing quiet whenever I entered the room. I was even forbidden to pick any UPS packages. Darn! I love UPS packages and not only because our UPS guy is awfully cute. And couldn't they have kicked me out on a warm and sunny day? It was windy and it threatened to rain any moment.Rain or not, I actually did not mind having time just for myself so I hit the trails in Almaden Quicksilver Park and enjoyed myself tremendously. The weather improved as soon as I got to the trailhead and even the sun peaked out ever so often. There were very few people on trails, most probably exercising their credit cards in malls. Maybe it's better because there was hardly anybody to see how much I sucked on hills. I need to do a lot more hill work; my legs, my lungs and my brain need a lot more of hill work. Or maybe those hills got steeper and taller since the last time I did them in March, I think. After all we do live in tectonically active area so it is possible the topography changed here. :)

So while I was killing my legs and lungs, my boys were working hard on replacing the lamp over the kitchen table. I never liked the one we had but I put up with it for 13 years we've been in this house. Over the years I learned to ignore it and maybe that is why we kept it for so long, I just stopped looking at it. I like the one they picked a lot. The picture does not give it justice. The lamp gives very warm light and with dimmers that my guys installed, we can change the mood in the eating area too. I was told it was a pain to install but still they had a lot of fun, so that makes it even more precious. I love the effort they put into this project and that is worth a lot more than the lamp itself.
As for my birthday resolutions, after many drafts I came up with a short list:
cherish and enjoy every and I really mean EVERY experience
There are too many things I cannot control and how I feel about my life depends only on how I view it. So this year I decided to keep my list short and simple. OK, it is simple to write but challenging to stick to but at least I don't think I will ever have to go back to that list to remember what it says.
